Meet Author
Laura Smith!
Laura was born in the small town of Glenwood, Georgia. She was raised to value honesty and integrity as she worked for her parents in their hometown business. She attended Brewton Parker college for two years acquiring an Associate of Science. After attending Georgia College in Milledgeville for one year she decided her dreams lay in a different direction.
In 1990, she and Eric were married and made their home in Telfair, the next county over. Grace, their first child, was born in 1992. By 1997, they added to their family three more children. Laura continued life as a stay-at-home mother, while she helped with her family’s business after her father, Arlan, passed in 1994. In the years that followed she cheered her children on in various sports, made makeshift volleyball courts in friends’ yards and gathered friends together to walk the neighborhood for exercise. For the past ten years she has had the privilege to learn the best life lessons while giving care to a young man with cerebral palsy.
Laura loves sharing sunsets in unfamiliar places and sunrises viewed from kayaks on slow moving rivers with her family and friends. She knows the value of having conversations with strangers who often then become her friends. But her greatest joy is sitting around the dinner table with her family, now including grandchildren, listening to their stories and sharing in their adventures.
After losing Grace in 2013, the best outlet for her grief was to journal. This book, a tribute to Grace, is a collection of her reflections, memories and feelings.
What Made Laura write this?
The simple answer is Love. Love for a daughter taken too soon. Love drenched in grief, loss and sorrow trying to understand what cannot be explained.
